In 1978 Roscoe Keeney of West Virginia published "2,597 KEENEY RELATIVES", focusing on the Moses Keeney (son of John, original Keeney settler in VA/WV) family from 1750.  Five hundred copies were published and distributed and the material was out of date so no new printing was scheduled.  Piles of additional material came in (from those who refused to respond when asked earlier), prompting the need for an organ to keep all these relatives up to date. In the eighteen years following UPDATE has spread in coverage to 45 states and numerous articles and family listings have been published, with authors mainly from Oregon, Iowa, Indiana, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and elsewhere. The issues have been financed by voluntary contributions from a couple of dozen appreciative family members.

Every issue of KEENEY UPDATE has been sent to the KEENEY FAMILY WEBSITE, started and owned by Daniell Keeney.  Items from KEENEY UPDATE may be reproduced and distributed, provided credit is given to KEENEY UPDATE, PO Box 5519, Charleston WV, with date of issue.)

UPDATED by E-mail on 01 March 2008

Hello! My name is Brooke Randolph and my mother is the daughter of Cyril Alvin Keeney of Prenter, WV.  I came across your website yesterday and found my grandfather's obituary listed under the June 1986 Keeney Update. In reading his obit, I noticed some incorrect information.  I am not sure if this is something that can be changed, but if it can my family would greatly appreciate it.

His age was listed as 79, but he was 70 at his time of death.  Also, my mother's name is listed as Mrs. Burdis ----, and her name is Mrs. Sarah Hunter.  Finally, his sister is listed as Marti Bradham and her name is Maria Branham.

It was great to find this page. My mother and grandmother are excited to explore the page and find more information on relatives.

After the 8-page issue in March, there was some question of finance, since postal service required 39c for each envelope. But you came through. Keeneys are coming out of the woods from coast to coast. Many thought they were members of a small family. No more!
Some wonder why we don't sell subscriptions. Frankly, we'd have to charge too much for the "old timers", whose interest is high and income limited. It's those $20 bills from the more prosperous (this happens about once an issue) that keeps us going.
Continuation of KEENEY UPDATE still depends on news and records contributed by YOU. If it is printed or neatly typed single-space, its chance of being printed is greatly improved. Pictures of KEENEYS, or direct KEENEY descendants born before 1900, are much wanted.
